Alexander Siddig - A brief career history

Sid's career must be viewed as still being in its very early stages! His principal roles so far have been:
The Big Battalions - a six part mini-series made for Channel 4 in which Sid played Yussef, a young Palestinian. Sid as Feisal
A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia - this was a British made for TV film which won the International Emmy for best drama in 1992. Sid took the role of Feisal, playing opposite Ralph Fiennes as T.E. Lawrence.

Bashir in Klingon gear Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - as if you needed to be told Sid played Doctor Julian Bashir throughout the show's seven year run. Here he is resplendent in Klingon bachelor party wear! (photo copyright Paramount and no infringement is intended)

The Vertical Limit - Sid plays one of the climbers involved in a dangerous rescue mission on K2. He's in good company as the rest of the cast includes Chris O'Donnell, Bill Paxton, Robin Tunney, Nick Lea, Scott Glenn and Izabella Scorupco. His may not be the largest role, but he makes the most of his screen time and brings his character Kareem very much to life.

Kareem

This page is still very much under construction and I will endeavour to dig out some of Sid's own comments about the above productions. However, for now I would like to look at the roles Sid very probably won't mention - as a film extra and on children's TV!

First there is Sid's 'blink and you'll miss it' appearance as a partygoer in the 1987 British made film Sammy and Rosie Get Laid. He is seen in the foreground of the shot for all of thirty seconds and whilst he looks very young, he's instantly recognisable. He is shown talking to a young woman who has a baby in her arms. He is nattily dressed in a brownish suit and waistcoat with a pink and white striped shirt and a bow tie!

Next is the unforgettable (and I'm sure Sid wishes we would all forget it) appearance he made on Parallel 9 - a Saturday morning kids TV show from the early nineties. This dates from very early DS9 days and was obviously intended to promote the show, but apparently without Paramount backing as Sid was not dressed in his Starfleet uniform. Instead he had been put in a shiny, quilted grey two piece suit over a white shirt. His appearances were broken up across the show in short segments...

It began with Sid and presenter Lucinda in a caravan and Sid complaining about being chased by the comedy Klingons from hell who were after his copy of the Emissary video! He asked for help to get to space - to Parallel 9... Later, after supposedly refereeing a basketball game, he was transported to his destination by means of having his hand stamped - and not a moment too soon as the Klingons burst in!!

He arrives in Parallel 9 to be greeted by his 'old friend' Dr Kovan. Kovan declares Sid looks splendid, to which the reply is that Kovan looks - weird. It appears Parallel 9 is in the grip of an outbreak of VTF according to Dr Bashir's diagnosis! Kovan wants to know what that is and after a series of questions, ending with Sid waggling his tongue and asking Kovan to repeat "Mine's a pint of lager, Gazza", he announces it's Venetian Twitching Flu!

Later Sid and Kovan are shown reminiscing about old times and then we get the old pre- and post-ganglionic spiel plus a bit of Sid leching over Dax. This leads into a video clip from A Man Alone. Then Kovan announces Sid was the one who said medicine was dull and boring and that he needed more action and asks if he's getting it. Sid's reply is an emphatic "I AM getting it!" - don't we just know it!! :-) Further conversation leads to Kovan asking Sid's help to cure the epidemic of VTF - he agrees subject to Kovan arranging a meeting for him with Lucinda!

A modern classic indeed!! :-D
